Karawang, September 2, 2024 - On October 5, 2023, the English Language Education Study Program of Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang (Unsika) hosted SEECon 2023 to advance the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in English language learning. The conference, themed "Striving for Professional Teachers in Implementing the Merdeka Curriculum: Opportunities and Challenges," was held at the Front One Akhsaya Karawang Hotel and online, with 360 participants and 32 presenters.
The event featured keynote speakers such as Prof. Dr. Joko Nurkamto (UNS), Helena I.R. Agustin (UNKARTUR), and Ika Lestari Damayanti (UPI), who explored topics on professional development, SFL-genre pedagogy, and effective English instruction within the Merdeka Curriculum.
The conference brought together educators, researchers, and students to share strategies for curriculum implementation. It was chaired by Mobit, S.Pd., M.Pd., with moderators including Yousef Bani Ahmad, S.S., M.Hum., Fikri Asih Wigati, S.S., M.Pd., and Evi Karlina Ambarwati, S.S., M.Ed., all lecturers in the program. Seven English Education students also played key roles in facilitating the parallel sessions.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. H. Sutirna, M.Pd., Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Unsika, expressed his hopes that the conference would inspire participants to effectively apply the Merdeka Curriculum.
Following the plenary sessions, the conference continued with parallel presentations from 32 speakers representing various schools and universities, contributing to a rich exchange of ideas and research findings.
