Pre-SEECON 2025: Preparing Scholars to Publish with Impact

Karawang, August 1, 2025 – As part of the lead-up to the International Conference SEECON x PELTIN 2025, the English Education Study Program of Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang (Unsika) organized a Pre-SEECON Webinar. The online event, broadcast via Zoom and YouTube, featured Dr. Mahmud Layan Hutasuhut, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D., on the topic Crafting a Publishable Article that the Editor Will Notice.

Building a Culture of Publication

In his presentation, Dr. Hutasuhut emphasized the importance of academic writing as a cornerstone of scholarly development. He highlighted that writing for publication is not merely about fulfilling academic requirements but also about contributing to broader conversations in education and research. He encouraged participants to see publication as a form of scholarly dialogue that requires clarity, originality, and a strong sense of purpose.

Key Strategies for Academic Success

Drawing from his own experiences as both author and reviewer, Dr. Hutasuhut explained practical strategies to increase the visibility of academic articles. Among his points, he stressed the need to identify a clear research gap, align with the aims and scope of target journals, and ensure methodological rigor. He also underlined the importance of crafting compelling titles and abstracts that immediately capture the attention of editors and reviewers.

The session included practical examples, where Dr. Hutasuhut reviewed common mistakes that often lead to rejections, such as lack of focus, weak theoretical grounding, or issues in coherence and citation. He reminded participants that persistence is key, noting that revisions and resubmissions are part of every researcher’s journey.

Interactive Engagement with Participants

The webinar was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where participants raised questions ranging from selecting the right journal to navigating reviewer feedback. Dr. Hutasuhut encouraged participants to treat critical feedback not as discouragement but as valuable guidance to strengthen their work.

Preparing the Ground for SEECON 2025

As a pre-conference event, this webinar set the stage for the SEECON x PELTIN 2025 International Conference by equipping young scholars, lecturers, and graduate students with the skills and confidence to participate actively in academic publishing.
