Yogyakarta, August 11, 2025 . The English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang (UNSIKA), in collaboration with the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), held a community service program titled “Strengthening Teacher and Student Competence through the Synergy of Technology, Counseling, and Culture to Achieve Quality Education in the Digital Era.”
The activity took place at SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Yogyakarta, targeting students and teachers as the main participants. For students, the program focused on smart and ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy. The first session was delivered by Elih Sutisna Yanto, S.Pd., M.Pd., who introduced the C.R.E.A.T.E. framework as a structured guide for composing effective prompts. He emphasized that students should not only be proficient in using AI but also understand its ethical boundaries so that technology serves as an empowering tool.
Elih also presented data from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA, 2023), which reported a 25% increase in depression and anxiety cases among high school students, while the capacity of school counselors to address issues such as cyberbullying and digital addiction remains limited. Therefore, the program also aimed to strengthen teachers’ ability to respond to complex educational challenges in the digital era.
The teacher-focused sessions featured two experts who provided training on empathetic communication, active listening, and practical strategies for supporting students’ emotional and academic development.
Prof. Dr. Sutirna, M.Pd. (Dean of FKIP UNSIKA) discussed the importance of school counseling that goes beyond problem-solving, emphasizing the need to build healthy teacher–student relationships through empathy and local wisdom.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Drs. H. Maman Suryaman, M.Pd. (FBS UNY) presented material on teacher competence development through local wisdom-based learning, encouraging the integration of cultural values into the curriculum to shape students’ national identity and character.
The program was attended by dozens of students from grades X, XI, and XII, as well as 20 teachers. The Principal of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Yogyakarta, Mr. Zulbahri, S.E., also participated enthusiastically throughout the sessions.
This collaborative community service program between English Language Education FKIP UNSIKA and FBS UNY serves as a model for academic synergy between universities, schools, and communities, fostering an educational ecosystem that is adaptive to technological advances while remaining rooted in cultural values.
