English Language Education Study Program Holds Guest Lecture on Digital Communication Ethics and Legal Consequences

Karawang, 5 March 2026 - The English Language Education Study Program organized a guest lecture titled “Digital Communication Ethics: Netiquette and Legal Consequences” on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The event was held online via Zoom and featured Xenia Angelica Wijayanto, S.H., M.Si., a lecturer and researcher from the LSPR Institute of Communication & Business whose expertise includes digital literacy, public communication, and digital media law.

The guest lecture was attended by students of the English Language Education Study Program who are currently enrolled in the Digital Literacy course. The event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of ethical communication in digital spaces while also raising awareness of the potential legal consequences associated with online activities.

The event began with opening remarks from the Coordinator of the English Language Education Study Program, Evi Karlina, S.S., M.Ed. In her remarks, she emphasized that English Language Education students are expected not only to master academic content but also to demonstrate responsible behavior in digital interactions.

“English Language Education students are required not only to be proficient in delivering learning materials but also to become role models in interacting in the digital world. Considering the increasing number of legal issues related to digital spaces, this guest lecture is a valuable opportunity for all of us to understand the various aspects of netiquette and the legal consequences that may follow,” she stated.

During her presentation, Xenia discussed the concept of netiquette, the importance of maintaining a responsible digital footprint, and various forms of digital communication violations that may lead to legal consequences, particularly those related to Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) and the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP). 

She also highlighted the importance of digital responsibility and the lasting impact of online behavior.

“We can all become agents of change by reminding one another about the permanence of our digital footprints. Ethics is not merely about rules, but the foundation for building a more productive and harmonious life on the internet,” she said.

The event was also attended by the lecturers of the Digital Literacy course, Refi Aksep Sativa, S.Pd., M.Pd., Khoirul Bariyyah, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Sukarno, S.Pd., M.Pd. Refi Aksep Sativa served as the Master of Ceremony, while Khoirul Bariyyah acted as the moderator guiding the discussion session.

The guest lecture ran smoothly and interactively. Students showed strong enthusiasm by actively asking questions and sharing their perspectives on their experiences in digital communication. Through this activity, students are expected to develop a deeper understanding of digital communication ethics and become responsible, critical, and ethical digital citizens.
